Interview about Co-crafting the Just City

Much has transpired since Routledge Press published my book in March of 2022. I will try to catch up. But for now I simply want to post notice of a radio interview about my book that was posted on Facebook yesterday (February 6, 2023). The person who conducted the interview and posted the announcement on Facebook was Holly Hart of KICI-LP, 105.3 FM, Iowa City. Holly wrote:

https://www.facebook.com/IClocalradio Ever wonder what it would be like to serve as city councilor or mayor in a mid-size university town? In our next Situation Room, former Iowa City Mayor and UI Emeritus Professor James Throgmorton talks about his new book, “Co-crafting the Just City: Tales from the Field by a Planning Scholar Turned Mayor” (Routledge, Taylor and Francis Group, March 2022). The book focuses on what he experienced and learned as a council member from 2012 through 2019, and as mayor from 2016 through 2019.Iowa Citians who lived here during that time will recognize a lot of the history: efforts to alleviate race-related inequities, increase the supply of affordable housing, adopt an ambitious climate action plan, improve relationships between city government and diverse communities, pursue more inclusive and sustainable land development codes/policies, and more. The book provides a sense of what democratically-elected city council members and mayors do, and proposes a practical, action-oriented theory about how city futures can be shaped. Jim also draws on his experience to speak about what he felt was accomplished, and what he sees as possible future trends and recommended practices in Iowa City’s structure and processes of governance. Listen Tuesday at 6:30 am and 9 pm; Wednesday at 4:30 pm, Friday at 10 am and Sunday at 1 pm. You can also listen on SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/…/j_throgmorton_co-crafting-the…

I thank Holly for conducting such a stimulating and, hopefully, informative interview.
